Original description, Meyrick 1906
Heterochyta, n. g.
Head with appressed hairs, sidetufts projecting between antennae; tongue developed. Antennae ¾, in male minutely ciliated (1/3), basal joint moderately elongate, without pecten. Labial palpi very long, straight, porrected, second joint clothed with dense rough projecting hairscales above and beneath, terminal joint ¼ - ½ of second, moderate, acute or tolerably pointed. Forewings with 2 from ¾ - 5/6, 3 from angle, 7 and 8 stalked, 7 to apex. Hindwings 1, elongate-ovate, cilia ½; 3 and 4 connate, 5, 6, 7 parallel.
Type H. xenomorpha. Nearly allied to the preceding genus, [Heterobathra] but the palpi are peculiar and characteristic, approaching those of Pleurota. The three species are readily separated by the colour of the stigmata and proportions of the palpi:-
Stigmata blackish .........................xenomorpha.
Stigmata pale reddish-ochreous ........pyrosema.
Stigmata white .....................................asteropa.
Subsequent description, Turner 1947
Gen Heterochyta, Meyr.
Palpi very long, porrect; second joint very long, thickened with dense rough scales above and beneath; terminal joint much shorter, slender, pointed. Antennae without pecten; in male simple. Posterior tibiae smooth with some hairs on dorsum. Forewings with 2 from two-thirds, 7 and 8 stalked; 7 to apex. Hindwings elongate-ovate; 5 from middle of cell. Type, H. xenomorpha Meyr.
Synonymic description, Turner 1947
Gen. Macrobela, n. g.
(μαχροβελος, with long palpi.)
